Product Custom Fields

At the product custom fields settings tab, you can setup your product custom field functionality and the general availability of custom fields for products.

The product custom field settings tab allows you to enable certain product field functions or to disable them completely.

The following options are available:

Option Description
Activate Product Fields Set the option to “Yes” to activate product fields, set it to “No” to completely disable product fields.

If enabled, extra fields for products are displayed alongside the default product fields. They can be used to enter and display specifications or other descriptive data.
Available Product Field Types Select the types, you want to use. Only the selected field types will be available for products. The following types are available:
  • Default Field Groups
  • Optional Global Field Groups
  • Optional Category Field Groups
Activate Product Fields Compare Enable the product compare function. Once activated, products with extra product fields can be compared with other products with the same fields at the storefront.
Please note: Product fields still need to be active to use them for the product comparison.

While “Activate Product Fields” and “Activate Product Fields Compare” determine the general availability of product fields, the product field type selection determines, what kind of product fields are available for products and if they are optional or available by default.

The following product field types can be selected:

Option Description
Default Field Groups Fields in these groups are available by default for all products.
No further action is required to make them available at the product details page. They are available by default.
Optional Global Field Groups Fields in these groups are available for all products, but are optional.
The admin needs to select the field group he wants to use with a product at the product details page to use these fields.
Optional Category Field Groups Fields in these groups are only available for products in a certain primary category.
The admin needs to select a certain category before fields in these field groups can be used at the at the product details page.
